Eating Disorders
When most people think about disordered eating, they usually think of anorexia and bulimia. However, those are just two types of disordered eating that a person can be struggling with. Binge eating disorder and Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) are lesser known disorders that a person can be struggling with. Binge eating disorder is often characterized by eating large quantities of food in a short amount of time. The individual may often feel they can’t control or stop what and how much they are eating. People with ARFID often limit their variety and quantity of food due to sensory issues or because they have certain fears about eating certain types of foods. Research has shown there is a high correlation between trauma and eating disorders. For individuals who may be concerned about having an eating disorder, your therapist will help you to examine your relationship with food and your typical food habits along with completing a full psychological assessment to determine your needs and goals and to determine what (if any) treatment plan is best for you.
