Anxiety

The American Psychological Association defines anxiety as “an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure.” However, anxiety is so much more than that. People with anxiety are often worried about their future and the possibility of bad things happening to them. Anxiety is one of the most commonly diagnosed mental health disorders with some estimates suggesting that 1 out of 4 people suffer from some kind of anxiety disorder in their lifetime. In addition to worries about the future, persons with anxiety can experience physical symptoms including frequent headaches, muscle tension, stomachaches,  changes in appetite, problems sleeping, and a host of other physical symptoms. However, there is hope. Anxiety is treatable. Your therapist may use a variety of approaches to help treat your anxiety including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and other modalities to decrease the anxious feelings you have and to live a more present-centered peaceful life.
